1. Hi, could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
This is one question I always found difficult to answer. Where do I begin from? Well to sum it all up- I’m a 21 year old Business Management graduate who realized in my second year of college that the Fashion Industry is where I want to be. And here I am, blogging away, doing what I love and learning so much along the way.
2. Where did you find the inspiration for your blog? When did you start?
They say that an idle mind is a devil’s playground. Well in this case the devil was too busy to play and instead left me with a creative idea. And of course that devil is my elder sister, who started a lifestyle and fashion blog with great ideas but no time. On the other hand, I had all the time in the world and decided to continue what she started. Started off as a cure for boredom grew into a hobby and now it’s become my passion.
3. Tell us about the competition. Where did you find the information of the competition? What were the stages of the competition? How has your experience been so far?
This competition has been an unexpectedly beautiful journey. Unexpected because when I heard about it from a friend who convinced me to give it a shot, I had zero idea that today I’d be here answering these questions as the Mumbai winner, anticipating the final results. Beautiful because this competition has given me the platform that most new bloggers dream of. I’ve met some amazing people and learnt so much from them, especially from my Mentor, Aanam. She’s the kind of person who would figure out when I needed her help without me even asking her. And being the shy person that I am, having someone who understands you without having to say much is something very rare to come across.
When I first got an e-mail from the POPxo Team saying that I was shortlisted for the Mumbai round, I was so thrilled! Even to make it as one of the top 10 bloggers felt like I had conquered a mile stone as a blogger. So now you can imagine how I must have felt having won that round. I still remember Aanam telling me, “Stop trembling already, you’ve won!” And that’s when it started sinking in.
The next round and the most crucial was the video shoot based on which people vote for their favourite teams. Having never shot a video before, and especially of this caliber really gave me the nerves. But it turned out to be super fun.
For the Final Round we were asked to do a shoot on any theme we preferred and since it was the Final, we left no stone unturned. The theme we selected is our depiction of a Modern Bride. We gave it our all and now all we can do is hope for the best!
4. How would you describe your personal style?
Eclectic comfort styles. Eclectic because I can’t define myself into one style at any given point of time as my style is based on my mood. And for me comfort is key for any outfit I wear. If it isn’t comfortable it isn’t worth it!
5. How do you put together an outfit – can you talk us through the process?
A well styled outfit is a well planned outfit. And often that depends on my mood and the weather. Honestly, I don’t have a process, but I always plan beforehand so that last minute I don’t get all frantic and mess up my entire room. And the best time to think is in the bathroom- I always figure the best looks then.
6. So what’s your typical day doing the blog?
On a typical day I’m fighting with my internet and laptop to get posts up on time. And when I’m not doing that, I’m looking for inspiration by spending hours going to some of my favourite blogs and listening to music.
7. Who does your amazing photography?
Anyone who stumbles upon my blog often asks me this question. I have a couple of people who shoot for me like my aunt who is a hidden talent, some friends who I force into clicking my OOTD’s and collaborations with some very talented photographers who I come across on Instagram.
8. What is the biggest challenge about fashion blogging?
Right now there’s a sea full of talented bloggers who have suddenly emerged and have become celebrities in their own right. While all that is brilliant, the increased “competition” if I may call it, is getting everyone sucked into the “number game”-Instagram followers, Facebook likes, Twitter followers and the likes. The number of followers you have is more relevant as opposed to blog content to establish one as good blogger, which is challenging for most new or non-established bloggers.
9. What are some of your current fashion obsessions?
I’m obsessed with boyfriend jeans right now only because they’re SUPER DUPER comfortable. I can live and die in them!
10. Season of Fashion weeks is upon us, what’s your one favorite look from Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015?
I don’t have one particular favourite look but I love the entire Bodice collection by Ruchika Sachdeva. Her collection has mix of feminine and androgynous styles, which is my favourite combination. I have always been a fan of her work and this time also she didn’t fail to impress.
11. A style and beauty tip for fall 2015?
Fall is the best season to experiment. Throw on jackets, layer up and don’t forget all the booties you can wear now. As for beauty, keep it simple and natural and MOISTURIZE! Your skin is going to get dry so make sure you pamper your skin so it’s happy too! Also go darker this time, darker eyes, darker lips, go all out.
Sana, we wish you all the luck.
