What is MET Gala

True to our heading, we surely believe that Met Gala is the ultimate fashion event where tonnes of risky fashion looks are seen on the red carpet, or the pink carpet for this time. “MET Gala is one of the topmost fashion events of the world which is held in the Museum of Arts in New York. No other fashion event can match up the level of MET Gala because of a lot of reasons.

It takes place on the first Monday of May every year. The main USP of this fashion event is that a unique concept is given to the celebrities to be dressed up and show up on the red carpet. This  is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.” There have been a lot of concepts out there that are still remembered from the MET Gala event. It is an invite-only event where the invitees get the seal of approval by Ms. Wintour. MET Gala 2019 is the 71^st MET Gala event.

What was the theme of MET Gala 2019

The concept of MET Gala 2019 was ‘Camp: Notes on fashion’. The celebs have to adhere to this policy strictly with their looks. This particular theme is inspired by Susan Sontag’s essay named ‘Notes on Camps’ that was published in 1964. Here, the word camp is derived from the French verb camper, meaning to strike an exaggerated pose. As per his essay, the beauty of camp lies in the unnatural that can be defined as artifice and exaggeration. Along with this, it means all about having fun without having the pressure of constantly looking perfect.

Let us take a moment and applause Lady Gaga because she changed her outfit four times on the red carpet and she literally stripped. Hats off the ‘Lady’! She was wearing a pink exaggerated outfit by Brandon Maxwell and she was styled by Sandra Amador. 3. Kylie Jenner

Well, it is always a treat to watch the Jenner sisters on any red carpet and they obviously slayed this one as well. I love her lilac look from top to toe. With that purple fine hair done by her hairstylist ‘Touched by Tokyo’, with neutral makeup done by Ariel and her lilac naked gown with extra fluttered sleeves and trail by Donatella Versace, everything was beyond gorgeous.

Not loving Kendall any less than Kylie today, or any other day! She was that orange bird you would never want to miss the sight of. She was dressed up in an Atelier Versace outfit. The whole gown was crafted from a sheer tulle base enriched with chevron pattern crystal embroidery on it. The matching feather trim was crafted very delicately by hand itself.

Well, not even lying but crushing over Dua Lipa’s outfit which is an embroidered bodysuit with leggings and is completed with an overflowing Dutchesse skirt which is in a high low style. It was a colorful outfit by Versace.

6. Celine Dion

First things first, let me give a standing ovation to that extra AF outfit and that super extra AF headgear. Never seen something so gold, in the literal sense, in quite a time! She was wearing a custom Oscar De La Renta outfit which was constructed from 18 panels and has hand beaded by 52 masters embroiders. It took around 3000 hours to be made. Wait, it weighed over 22 pounds. Can’t imagine how she is carrying that with that grace.

7. Katy Perry

Okay, Katy Perry legit wore a chandelier to the MET Gala 2019 red carpet and oh my God, how is she looking. This was her rocking way to pay homage to the night and its theme. It was a custom made outfit by the designer Jeremy Scott for Moschino. It had silver crystals by Swarovski that covered the mini dress with a matching collar. The clear Swarovski crystals were falling all over the bodice. The look was balanced with a chandelier corset around her waist with matching smaller chandelier as the headpiece.

If someone did the summer look right, it was Serena Williams, though that was not the theme about. The USP of her outfit was that her gown was crafted with an innovative fabric that had some fluorescent properties. It was a bustier corset dress with a detachable skirt and a draped cape by Atelier Versace. The ivy motif on her entire dress was organza embroidered with Swarovski crystals.

Current situation: Drooling over all the gowns from the red carpet of the MET Gala 2019 and cannot figure out which is the best! Jlo was all herself in a sheer sparkly gown by Atelier Versace. To begin with, Cardi B wore $250 k rubies as the nipple covers and this bedazzled nipple jewelry was by Stefere. Her ever flowing down filled gown was by Thom Browne. Her dress was layered in oxblood blood and silk organza that had a 3-meter long train. It was designed as such that the tulle fills creates a shape that twists, gathers, and waves. It had hand embroidered bugle bead detailing all over. There were 30,000 burned and dyed coque feathers involved in the making of the dress. It was made by 35 people that took more than 2000 hours for creation.

Let us talk about the queen herself now. Her ‘wet look’ was straight out of the ocean-inspired theme. Her outfit was by Manfred Thierry Mugler and it was totally beyond couture. This wet outfit look creation was based on the archive pieces for the Mugler fashion house. The look was more than justice to the theme they had in mind. Gigi Hadid walked the red carpet of the MET Gala 2019 while channeling her inner ice queen. To be honest, we are tripping over her look. She wore a silver, gold, and white streaked catsuit that had a matching headpiece and coat adorned with feathers all over. It was all designed by none other than Michael Kors who was also her date of the evening. To top that effect of an icy queen, she also wore crystal hoops and elongated silver eyelashes. Camila chose an Indian designer, Prabal Gurung’s outfit for the MET Gala 2019 event and we are in awe of her look. The gown has a bright yellow bodice along with a feathered skirt that cascaded from behind. A giant blue bow cinched at the waist to give a romantic touch and twist to the whole look. It also added a trail detail to the look to make it MET ready. Keeping the yellow and blue combination in a feathered gown, made everyone think if Camila is channeling Bella’s look from the Beauty and the beast!

Deepika was all decked up like a Barbie doll in a custom made metallic pink tube lurex jacquard gown by Zac Posen. The gown had the detailing of GE Addictive along with the Protolabs embroidery. She was also dressed in Zac Posen’s couture. It was a custom made gown for her too. It was an ombre silver to the gold lame gown which was quite unique, to be honest. The headgear was Zac Posen X GE Addictives X Protolabs embroidery. I loved her neutral makeup with the red bold lipstick.

MET Gala 2019 was the debut event as the newlywed couple for Sophie and Joe and hence a lot of eyes were on them. Quite a cliche, they were coordinated in outfits just like the newlyweds do but we loved them. Sophie wore a sequined jumpsuit/catsuit by Louis Vuitton in a green, blue, and black colour palette. He was wearing a custom made Burberry black pinstriped wool English fit suit that was designed by Riccardo Tisci. The suit had an exaggerated cape detail along with a crystal-studded cage corset. He wears it with personalised cufflinks and crystal embroidered brogues. His dapper makeup was done by Mimi Choi.
