Before we start talking about how we can get “rid” of open pores, it is important that we know what they are and why they are there.
Pores are shelter to hair follicles and is where sebum (the oil that your skin produces) is made by “sebaceous glands.” Looking close enough, you can see the hair follicle pores with your naked eye. Pores are always open to allow for the oil and hair follicle to surface. Everyone has these pores all over their body expect on the soles of their feet and on the palms of their hands.
As much as you may not like the appearance of these pores when they become large and blocked but the oil that is produced inside of the sebaceous glands is your skin’s natural moisturizers, keeping skin supple and healthy. Without these no moisturiser, could keep your skin healthy; pores are a crucial part of everyone’s skin.
Here are a few home remedies that you can use the next time you have to go a party or when you decide to give your skin the TLC it deserves.
1-ICE CUBES
Ice is an effortless remedy that helps to shrink your large pores with its skin tightening effect. It minimizes the enlarged pores by stimulating proper blood circulation and thus promotes a healthier skin.
All you need to do is to wrap a few ice cubes in a clean cloth and hold it on the affected area of your skin for about 15- 20 seconds. Dry your skin and repeat the same process a few times daily until you get you get your desired skin. Also, prepare ice cubes using cucumber juice, green tea, apple juice or rose water and apply it on the face instead of using plain water ice cubes. For this take equal amount of water and cucumber juice, green tea, apple juice or rose water and freeze it.
2-APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Apple cider vinegar is known for its cleansing properties and also shrink the pores. It acts as a toner and tightens your skin. It also balances your skin’s pH level to prevent these open pores and disinfect the skin with its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
For this you need to mix equal quantities of raw apple cider and water in a bowl. Stir it well after which soak a cotton ball in this mixture and apply if all over your face. Let it sit until it dries and then wash it off with cold water, followed by a light moisturizer gently massaged into your skin. For best results use it daily.
3-LEMON
Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C and citric acid which exfoliates the skin and shrinks the open pores. It also lightens the skin by reducing the spots and scars with its bleaching effect.
For this you need to mix equal quantities of water and freshly made lemon juice in a bowl. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and apply it all over your face for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water. For best results repeat this process daily.
4-GRAM FLOUR (BESAN)
Mix 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon of gram flour. Apply it and wash off with cool water after 15-20 minutes.
5-RAW MILK
Raw milk can be used as a natural cleanser for the skin. First, clean your face. Apply it on the face with the help of a cotton ball and softly rub over your face. Wait for 15 minutes. Then, wash with fresh and cool water. This helps cleanse as well as seal the enlarged facial pores.
6-STEAM
Steam is one of the best ways to unclog the open pores. Before you begin this process, wash your face with a mild cleanser. Afterwards, splash some cold water, instantly, in order to close them.
7-ALOEVERA GEL
Aloe Vera gel has skin cleansing properties that can seal facial pores. Rub the gel for 5 minutes and leave until it gets dries. Afterwards, wash your face with cool water.
8-FULLER’S EARTH (MULTANI MITTI)
Fuller’s Earth absorbs excess oil and dead cells by exfoliating the skin. It also gives a natural glow to the skin by reducing the blemishes, spots, and scars. It also reverses the damage caused by sun’s rays.
Take two tablespoons of fuller’s earth and mix it with one tablespoon of honey and milk. Combine all these ingredients properly. Apply it all over your face. Wash off after 15-20 minutes with cold water. This will nourish your skin, and lessen the open pores.
9-PAPAYA
Papaya has enzymes that shrink the pores. It also removes dead skin, excess oil and unclog pores. Take a slice of papaya (without seeds) and rub it all over your face. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes and then wash it with cold water.
10-BAKING SODA
Baking soda works as an exfoliating agent that removes excess oil and dirt from your skin. Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda in lukewarm water. Apply the paste on your face and massage in circular motion. Leave it for 5 minutes and rinse it off with cool water.
